Delhi court officially closed the POCSO case against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The case was based on a complaint filed in April 2023 by the father of a minor wrestler, alleging sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation.
However, during the investigation, both the minor and her father retracted the allegations. The father admitted to filing a false complaint out of frustration over his daughter’s non-selection in a wrestling championship.
Following this, the Delhi Police submitted a 550-page cancellation report on June 15, 2023, stating that there was insufficient evidence to support the allegations. During an in-camera proceeding on August 1, 2023, both the minor and her father expressed satisfaction with the investigation and did not object to the cancellation report.
Additional Sessions Judge Gomti Manocha of the Patiala House Courts reviewed the police report and found no sufficient material to proceed further with the case. Accordingly, the court accepted the closure report and officially brought the POCSO case to an end.
Despite the closure of this particular case, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues to face legal proceedings in a separate case involving allegations of sexual harassment filed by six adult women wrestlers. The Delhi Police have filed a chargesheet in that matter, and the trial is currently ongoing. The developments in these cases have drawn nationwide attention, especially following widespread protests by prominent athletes seeking justice.
